“Filming with the Heart in Mind” is the motto of the Digital Film Communication program. This project-based learning environment provides students with the opportunity to experience the process of digital film production while studying film literacy and developing media awareness. Active learners select their themes, write the scripts and create the story boards for their films. Young filmmakers may choose to produce public service announcements, documentaries, music videos or short narratives on a wide variety of cultural and social issues.
Digital film making is an alternative form of media literacy well suited to support female youth’s interests in communication and socialization. Personalized teaching strategies with new 21st century interactive technological processes emphasizing effective interpersonal skills while working in crews. Hands on experience with digital cameras and editing equipment preparing future leaders for the age of self-advocacy, social media and global interconnectedness.
