In Zambia, three young people become infected with HIV every hour and fewer than 40 per cent of young people have detailed information or comprehensive knowledge about how to protect themselves.
Josephine, a 21-year-old from Lusaka, is determined to make a change using a simple tool: the mobile phone. As one of Zambia’s more than 60,000 U-Reporters, she is an active part of a community that provides confidential, free and interactive counselling to young people through rapid SMS.
Anyone can join to obtain information on how to protect themselves against HIV and other sexually transmitted infections without fear of stigma, discrimination or embarrassment.
This short film was produced by UNICEF’s Office of Research – Innocenti to support the launch of the study Children, ICTs and Development: Capturing the potential, meeting the challenges, published in April 2014.
